Wrong side of history

Posted Thursday, October 7, 2010, at 6:50 AM

I waited 15 years for this?

The Reds' first postseason appearance since 1995 wasn't exactly supposed to go this way in my mind. No hit? Really boys? You have 27 outs to at least drop in a bloop single, and nothing?

The bad news is the bats were obviously dead. I wish the teams were playing again today because an off day to think about it really isn't going to help.

The other bad news is Roy Oswalt will be on the mound Friday, followed by Cole Hammels on Sunday. It does get relatively easier, but that's two more aces to face.

The good news? The bullpen looked great. After Edinson Volquez surrendered two runs in 1.2 innings (don't get me started), the Reds relievers were almost as lights out as Halladay.

It's also best to keep in mind that it's just one win. If the Phillies had won 4-3, the Reds would still trail 1-0 in the series. A loss is a loss.

But a no-hitter can't bode well. What's really troubling is being on the wrong side of history. This is only the second postseason no-hitter in baseball. Ever.

On the other hand, I have to look in the other dugout and simply say Halladay was great on Wednesday. I just wish it was great against someone else.

True True True. At least they made it to the playoffs though. My team was last in their division.
