Imogene Y. Friend, 82, Greencastle, died Thursday at Putnam County Hospital.
Born in Greencastle, she was the daughter of Ishmael and Dooma (McAdams) York. She married Robert E. Friend on June 7, 1942, and he preceded her in death on Sept. 19, 1999.
A graduate of Greencastle High School, she retired from GTE after working several years as a telephone operator. She had previously worked at PR Mallorys and the GC Murphy store, Greencastle.
Survivors include a son, Howard Friend and wife Susan, Plainfield; a daughter, Julie Wilson and husband Dewayne, Greencastle; two stepsisters, Ruby Stringer, Greencastle, and Wilma Combs, Texas; seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, stepfather Roscoe T. Moore, son Robert M. Friend, brothers Malcolm York and Theron York, and sisters Thelma Hedge and Geraldine Thom.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Forest Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Bowen officiating. Hopkns-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, is in charge of arrangements.
