The Greencastle Tiger Cubs girls' basketball team hosted the Monrovia Bulldogs Friday night in the final West Central Conference game of the season.

The game was also the final tune up for the Tiger Cubs before opening the Class 3A, Sectional 29 at McAnally Center next Tuesday night against Sullivan.

Additionally, it was Senior night for Greencastle, celebrating the last regular season home game of Kyrian Marshall and Stefanie Masten.

The Tiger Cubs were able to stay with the Bulldogs in the first four minutes of the game, but Monrovia went on to defeat Greencastle, 61-38.

Greencastle was able to stay close, trailing 11-6 at the end of the first period, and 25-16 at halftime, but Monrovia broke the game open in the third quarter, outscoring the Tiger Cubs 21-12 in that stanza and Greencastle was never able to close the gap.

Monrovia led 46-28 going into the fourth quarter and extended the lead to 23 at the final buzzer to spoil Greencastle's regular season finale.

The Bulldogs won the game by outshooting the Tiger Cubs, 44 to 35 percent from the floor, out rebounding the home team, 30-17, and forcing Greencastle to commit 22 turnovers.

'We didn't do a very good job of stopping them in transition," commented Greencastle coach Glen Hile after the game.

'We would turn the ball over and they would score on the turnovers, and then we lost a little heart, I thought, at the end of the third quarter and early in the fourth.

'We didn't do that last week, but we did tonight and they just beat us down the floor.

'That's how they beat teams. They have been an up and down ball club, but they were pretty good tonight.

'They beat teams with transition and that's how we got beat tonight.

'You look at the shot chart and they got shot after shot underneath the basket and that was not necessarily due to our defense. They just beat us back," added Hile.

Greencastle had one player who scored in double figures. Marshall led the way with 15.

Masten followed with nine, Laura Weatherford had six, Laura Robertson added four, and Grace Fisher and Cassie Alspaugh closed out the Tiger Cub scoring with two points each.

Masten had five rebounds, Marshall had four caroms, and Olivia Miller pulled-down three boards.

Fisher had three assists and Alspaugh dished out two.

Marshall had a game-high five blocked shots and Miller had two.

Fisher and Marshall had two steals each.

The Tiger Cubs (9-12, 3-3 WCC) open the Class 3A, Sectional 29 at McAnally Center next Tuesday night against Sullivan. The game will begin at 6 p.m.
