The young Greencastle squad had been struggling to find itself this season but they seemed to take a step closer to that goal, Thursday.
"I'm ecstatic. I couldn't be more pleased," coach Donovan Wheeler said. "We just struggled all spring with our confidence and struggled with our ability to score. We just made so many mistakes. We needed this."
David Lilly and Nick Pritchard shared medalist honors, with both scoring 37.
"I'm really happy with how David played," Wheeler said. "He's just and in-and-out guy. A guy you can count on for a number and he gives it to you.
"I'm also really pleased with Nick's 37. That's what he needs, what he's capable of doing."
Luke Crimmins followed them with a 39 and Jacob Collins came to the clubhouse with a 40.
"Jacob's 40 was great," Wheeler commented. "He only hit two greens the whole time, so he had to fight from off the green all night. He gave a number we could use."
Southmont was led by Andrew Aetis with a 43 and Adam Teague with a 45. Also shooting under 50 for Southmont was Josiah Binch, who came in with a 48.
Also hitting the links for the Tiger Cubs were Wade Huber and Lossan Jones, who both shot 47, Kyle Harlan with a 52 and Tyler Wade shot a 53.
Thursday's match was a quick two-day turnaround for the Tiger Cubs. In that span, they cut 21 strokes from their score and gained better control on the greens.
"It usually takes a group this young and this raw two-thirds of a season to get to this point, so this is just phenomenal," Wheeler said.
"I'm really happy, I'm really proud of these boys."
