Cloverdale golf ends North's win streak
CLOVERDALE -- The Cloverdale Clovers moved to 3-1 on the season, with their victory against North Putnam, 163-177, at home Monday night.
Medalist honors were shared by Cloverdale's Michael Glassburn and Kevin Gregg, who both shot 38. Three other Clovers shot under 50 on the day. Justin Hacker shot a 43, Sean Rhine had a 44 and Andrew Cofer shot a 45. Mike Wellington came to the clubhouse with a 57.
"Michael and Kevin played very well under the circumstances," CHS coach Doug Wokoun said.
"We still have plenty to work on as we move into a key part of our schedule."
The Cougars couldn't break the 40 stroke barrier. Patrick Byrd was North's low scorer with 41 and Eric Whitaker shot a 44. J.J. Burns and Jeremy Redman shot a 46 on the day, while Austin Malayer shot a 48 and Kyle Smith came in with a 51.
"We are pleased with the victory but we have to understand that it is a beginning and we have to Find a way to sustain and improve," Wokoun commented.
Cloverdale will travel to Greencastle to take out GHS and Plainfield Thursday at 4:30 p.m. while North will be back at it tonight against Owen Valley and host Cascade at 4:30 p.m.

Greencastle drops match to Braves
The Greencastle boys' golf team lost to Terre Haute South Monday, 151-167, at home, but saw some signs of good things to come.
Wade Huber, coming off a strong weekend performance, attacked the course Monday night to shot a team-low 40.
"Wade's performance for the last week has been impressive," GHS coach Donovan Wheeler said. "The biggest part of his transformation has been in his head. Whenever he runs into a problem, he keeps his cool and that allows him to recover.
"He's taking care of business around the greens. He's made the decision to separate himself from his competitors on the team."
Luke Crimmins shot a 41 on the day, with David Lilly close behind at 42.
"David got off to a horrible start; he was six over after five, but I was impressed with his ability to settle down and fight for a score on the closing four holes," Wheeler said. "That's the sort of will to score mentality that we lack overall."
Ryan Young also came in strong with a 44. Also posting scores for the Tiger Cubs were Nick Pritchard 47, Lossan Jones 48, Jacob Collins 50, Kyle Harlan 50, Tyler Wade 64 and Brandon Volland 68.
Terre Haute South took medalist honors as Phillip Myers scored a 36.
"Our number one problem as whole right now is that we give away shots. We have to learn to create and visualize shots, especially near the green," Wheeler commented.

Eagles Edge Rockville
ROCKVILLE -- The South Putnam boys' golf squad grabbed a one-shot victory over Rockville, 185-186, Monday night.
For the Eagles, Tyler Newby led the way with a 43 and Ben Anderson shot a solid 46. Jon Weaver shot a 46, Cory Welty 49 and Trea Boyce carded a 59.
"It was quite windy and the greens were firm, which resulted in very few players hitting the greens in regulation," South coach Scott Ricke said.
Kyle Troutwine scored medalist honors for Rockville with a 40.
"The fact that this was just a one-stoke victory shows that you have to maintain a level head out there as any mental mistake can mean a win or a loss for the team," Ricke said.
"I'm happy we pulled this one out," Ricke commented. "We've got a full week to prepare for the Cloverdale and Tri-West match. We're going to have to bring our best game to win that one. It should be fun."
