Norman C. Hill, 89, Greencastle, died Monday evening at his residence.

Born in Greencastle, he was the son of Robert and Ida (Harris) Hill.

He was a 1936 graduate of Greencastle High School and attended Purdue University and IUPUI.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was employed by Lone Star Industries in Greencastle, and later by IBM Corp. in Greencastle from Sept. 7, 1954 until his retirement on Jan. 31, 1985. He had also been an ordained minister since 1954 and served as pastor at Hanna Street Baptist Church in Greencatle, and Bridgeton Baptist Church. He had also guest pastored at numerous churches for many years. He was a member of Hanna Street Baptist Church where he had also served as deacon, Sunday school teacher and trustee. He was a member of Greencastle American Legion.

He married Maxine "Mackey" Sutherlin on June 24, 1941. She survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Marcia L. McGuire and husband Ron, Greencastle; two sons, David A. Hill and wife Sandra C., Bloomington, and Mark A. Meagher and wife Jacki, Greencastle; brothers Ernest Hill and wife Hazel, Greencastle, and Paul Hill and wife Freda, Longmont, Colo.; sister Wilma "Billie" Vaughn, Nashville, Tenn.; three grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Margie Torr, and brothers Harold, Raymond, James "Crow" and Robert Hill.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Hanna Street Baptist Church, Greencastle, with Rev. Patrick Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Boone-Hutcheson Cemetery.

Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle.
