Tiger Cubs go 1-3 in tourney

Wednesday, September 5, 2007

MONTGOMERY -- Greencastle traveled south to take part in Saturday's Barr-Reeve Invitational. In a tournament loaded with quality teams, the Tiger Cubs went 1-3, defeating Princeton 2-0 and falling to Randolph Southern, Barr-Reeve and Perry Central, all in three games.

"This was an awesome tourney with a lot of quality teams," GHS coach Trish Lowe said. "Three teams were ranked in the top 10. We played two of those teams and forced them to beat us in three games."

Greencastle opened with Randolph Southern, losing 25-21, 25-27, 15-9. They then took on the host Vikings, falling 25-17, 18-25, 15-12.

The Tiger Cubs captured the day's only victory over Princeton in the third match, 25-19, 25-20.

GHS closed the day with a 21-25, 25-22, 25-12 loss to Perry Central.

Kelsey Hennette led the Tiger Cubs in two categories with 60 assists, 31 points and five aces.

Olivia Miller led GHS in kills (37) and blocks with (19). Kristen Flint led with six stuff blocks.

Coach Lowe was extremely pleased with how her team played against the day's strong competition.

"We went 3 games with all of the teams that beat us and defeated Princeton in 2 games," Lowe said. "This was a very long day, but the experience was worth it.

"I hope we can carry the way we played into the County Tourney this weekend," she concluded.
