GHS volleyball defeats Edgewood

The Greencastle volleyball team defeated Edgewood in four games Monday night at home. The Tiger Cubs won 22-25, 25-16, 25-18 and 26-24.

After overcoming a first game loss, the Tiger Cubs won the next three games despite some serving woes.

"This was a win in the record books but we did a lot of things to give the match away," GHS coach Trish Lowe said. "This was our worst serving night."

Brooke Lewis came through for the Tiger Cubs, recording 18 digs, nine kills, two blocks and one stuff block. Kelsey Hennette provided 26 assists, two blocks and two kills, while Olivia Miller tallied six blocks, one stuff block, 13 kills, four aces and 11 digs.

Kayla Nobles had five kills, 12 digs and one aces, with Sarah Land adding seven blocks, two stuff blocks, two kills, one assist and four digs. Kristen Flint contributed five stuff blocks, 10 blocks, three kills and six digs, while Veronica Sawyer added nine digs and one assist.

Samantha Kuchler had eight digs and one assist, Hanna Cochran had one block and one digs and Mallory Miller added one assist.

"I was proud of our bench play and the sacrifices we made for others. I hope we come out more aggressive against a strong Terre Haute South team on Wednesday," Lowe commented.

The GHS junior varsity also picked up a win Monday, dropping Edgewood 25-22, 22-25 and 15-14.

Mallory Miller led the Tiger Cub charge with nine assists, two kills and 18 digs, while Kelsey Grzesiek had 15 digs. Cochran added four kills and five digs, with Braden Amis contributing six kills and five digs.

Haley Miller had 12 digs and three kills and Brooke Buckner added five digs.

The Tiger Cubs will travel to Terre Haute South at 6 p.m on Wednesday.
