Greencastle volleyball defeats South Putnam in three games

With the season winding down, the Greencastle volleyball team is hitting its stride at the right time. The Tiger Cubs downed South Putnam 25-10, 25-11 and 25-21 Thursday night.

"We played well against a county opponent and came out on top," GHS head coach Trish Lowe said.

With senior Kristen Flint out, the Tiger Cubs received solid performances from Olivia Miller, Brooke Lewis and Kelsey Hennette in the victory.

Miller recorded 15 digs, 13 kills, 11 blocks, four stuff blocks and three aces, while Lewis added 29 digs and seven kills. Kelsey Hennette contributed 22 assists, 13 digs, three kills and one ace.

Chelsea Samuels had 10 digs, three kills, three blocks, one assist and one ace, with Kayla Nobles adding 10 digs and two kills. Veronica Sawyer added 11 digs, two assist and two aces and Sarah Land had three blocks, two kills and one stuff block. Mallory Miller had one dig on the night.

"We did a nice job adjusting to play without Kristen Flint. We had fun tonight. It is fun when everyone can contribute and work toward a common goal," Lowe commented.

The junior varsity also picked up a win against the Eagles. GHS won 25-14 and 25-14.

No statistics were available at press time from South Putnam.

Greencastle will compete at the Cascade Invitational at 9 a.m. Saturday, while South Putnam will host Cascade at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
