Born in Clinton, he was the son of Roy and Mary (Ruby) Phipps. He married Betty L. Chilcote in 1944, and she preceded him in death in 2003.
He was a long-time dairy farmer and bus driver in Clinton Township.
He was a member of the Indiana Registered Aryshire Dairy Cattle Association and the Union Chapel Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Truax and husband Steve, Greencastle; a sister, Letha Shoaf and husband Walter, Rockville; two brothers Ish Phipps and wife Mary, Carbon, and Ivan Phipps, Indianapolis; three grandchildren, two great-grandsons and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Larry Phipps, a grandson, sisters Gladys Hartman, Ester Hartman and Lucy Swaim, brothers James, Lawrence, Homer, Harmon and Everett.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Robert DeAth officiating. Burial will follow at Brick Chapel Cemetery.
Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
