Monday, December 22, 2008

A Greencastle man has been sentenced to 13 years for his involvement in the Dec. 15, 2007 accidental death of a Greencastle High School senior.

Scotty B. Hoover, 24, was convicted of a Class B felony dealing in a schedule II controlled substance and Class C felony contributing to the delinquency of a minor in connection with the death of 17-year-old Dietrich Jackson. Under the terms of a plea agreement, the Class B charge had been reduced from a class A charge and an additional charge of dealing in a Class IV controlled substance was dropped.

Judge Matthew Headley handed down a sentence of 13 years with nine executed. Two years are to be spent on probation with another two on home electronic detention.

Putnam County Prosecutor Tim Bookwalter had recommended the maximum sentence under the agreement of 28 years for Hoover.
