Tree ceremony to honor veterans

Monday, April 27, 2009

At 10 a.m. Saturday, there will be a special Greencastle Veteran's Memorial Highway Arbor Day program. The program will honor the many sacrifices of the veterans who have and do serve our nation, as well as recognizing the City of Greencastle's 10th year of being named by the Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree City USA.

The morning's activities will feature guest speakers including Indiana's adjutant general, Major General R. Martin Umbarger, and Pam Loucks, our state's community and urban forestry coordinator. The event will also feature the dedication the 34 trees that have been donated this year to honor the lives of beloved veterans.

People wishing to consider the donation of a veteran's tree in future years are asked to contact the Greencastle Department of Public Works or the Putnam County Community Foundation.
