Mill Pond resident Madge Greenlee reflects on her long life
GREENCASTLE -- Want to know the secret to living to be 102 years old? According to Madge Greenlee, there is no secret.
"It's just ordinary country living. They never had any secrets about that," Greenlee said.
The Mill Pond Health Campus resident celebrated her 102nd birthday Saturday with a visit from a few friends and family.
"We didn't do anything spectacular. We just enjoyed the day," Greenlee said. "I don't like crowds. I only like crowds at the ballgames on TV."
The first of 11 children, Madge Trump was born Dec. 19, 1907 in Hendricks County.
"Back in those days, we were just born in our house," she said.
Madge married Murray Greenlee on Sept. 3, 1927. The couple had a son, Rolland A. Greenlee, and adopted another, Richard L. Trump.
The Greenlees farmed for a number of years before Rolland became a carpenter. Madge also worked at the Coatesville Post Office for 20 years.
She lived in the Coatesville area her entire life before moving to Mill Pond four years ago.
Of Greenlee's 10 siblings, four others are still living, all of them in their 80s or 90s. She said they still get together for a yearly family reunion. Long life may just be their blood.
"I never thought I'd live this long, but my mother was almost 102 when she died," Greenlee said.
