CLAYTON -- The Greencastle Middle School cross country teams battled Cascade Tuesday, with the girls winning 19-46 and the boys winning 21-40.
Hannah Brattain finished first in the girls' event with a time of 13:22. Libby Brush was third on the day, with Katie Haynes placing fourth and Sammy Haynes finishing fifth. Corrie Romer was sixth, while Lilly Spencer was seventh, Whitney Weinschenk was eighth and Bailey Lossee was 11th.
In the boys' race, Elijah Brattain was second to lead the GMS squad. Taylor Secrest finished third, with Sedrick Weinschenk finishing fourth and Jacob Lewis fifth. Clayton Wilson was the fifth runner to score points for Greencastle, finishing in sixth place.
"The times for the kids were on average 45-60 seconds slower than Saturday's race on the same course due to racing only a day and a half apart," head coach Art Dwigans said. "I feel kids need three days to recover from a race, and I think the results of this race back that up. But even with the lack of recovery time our kids showed their toughness by representing Greencastle Middle School with another dual meet victory, I'm really proud of them."
