Wilma was born in Indianapolis, one of two children of Frank and Gladys Shoemaker. She graduated from Fillmore High School in 1943.
In 1946, she married Frank Young, who passed away in 1952. She married Clay Tyrone in 1961, and he died in 1963. Her brother Waldo Shoemaker also preceded her in death.
She was employed in Indiana by the Associates Investment Company for 10 years. Wilma moved to Bakersfield in 1953 and was employed for 32 years by ARCO Oil & Gas Company, holding many positions and retiring in 1985 as an executive secretary.
After her retirement, she worked as a volunteer for a number of organizations: Vita Program, Bakersfield City Schools, election board and others. Wilma was a longtime member of the Mavericks club and enjoyed dancing and socializing with her friends.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Phyllis and cousins Diane Meacham and Dorette Pope.
At Wilma's request, there was no funeral service. Arrangements were handled by Greenlawn Mortuary in Bakersfield.
In Wilma's memory, a donation may be made to the American Heart Association.
