Woman faces charges of sex with underage boys

A 42-year-old Cloverdale woman was arrested early Tuesday on charges she committed sexual misconduct with as many as five teenage boys during 2003 and 2004.

Kristina D. Renner was arrested by Putnam County Deputy Terry Smith and lodged in the Putnam County Jail at 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. She was booked in on five counts:

-- Two counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, a Class B felony, regarding sexual intercourse and/or deviate sexual conduct with a child at least 14 years old but less than 16.

-- One count of child seduction, a Class C felony, involving the fondling or touching of the genitals of a male at least 14 but less than 16 with the intent to arouse or satisfy the sexual desires of the child or defendant.

-- One counts of child solicitation, a Class D felony, involving the solicitation of a child age 14 or 15 to engage in sexual intercourse or oral sex.

-- One count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, a Class A misdemeanor involving knowingly or intentionally aiding or inducing a person less than 18 years old to commit an act of delinquency. Specifically, she is charged with inducing the boys to smoke marijuana and consume alcohol.

While the alleged acts occurred seven or eight years ago, the illicit activity came to light recently, Putnam County Prosecutor Tim Bookwalter said, after one of the boys came forward with information late last year. His recollections of the incidents led authorities to the other boys, his friends, who also cooperated in the investigation.

At the time of the alleged sexual encounters, the boys ranged in age from 14 to 17, the probable cause affidavit indicates, while the suspect was 33 or 34 years old.

Det. Deanna Jones of the Indiana State Police interviewed the boys, now all 21 years of age or older.

Last September, she also interviewed Renner's ex-husband, who said they divorced in 2008 after eight years of marriage, during which time he said he learned that she had engaged in sexual relations with a 15-year-old boy in their Cloverdale home.

The probable cause affidavit also noted that the ex-husband taped an argument he had with the suspect in 2008.

After listening to the recording, Det. Jones related that "Kristina admits to having sex with one of the boys but claims he was 16 and consenting."

Then when her husband accuses her on the tape of having sex with the other boys, she denies having sex with one of them but does not refute the others, Det. Jones notes.

The ISP investigator noted that during her interview with the original victim, the boy said he had sex with the defendant five times, including once on the weight bench in the garage at the Renner home.

The defendant allegedly told him "not to tell anyone," that no one would believe him anyway, the affidavit details. The boy also related that she had supplied him with alcohol and marijuana an estimated 50 times during a period of more than a year.

He also reported doing cocaine and crystal meth with the woman.

A second reported victim told the investigator he had sexual intercourse with the woman on at least three occasions, including once in his car parked in her driveway.

A third reported victim said he was 15 when he and other boys were at the Renner home and he and Kristina were on the couch, covered up by a blanket. While they watched a movie, he said the suspect allegedly shoved her hands down his pants and began rubbing his genitals.

Det. Jones said when she attempted to interview the defendant, Renner "made an admission to having an alcohol issue, making bad choices and having sex" with one of the boys. She requested a lawyer regarding all other questions.

Renner remained in the Putnam County Jail late Tuesday, awaiting an initial hearing in Putnam Circuit Court.

Prosecutor Bookwalter said he plans to ask for the standard $30,000 bond in the case, as well as a no-contact order with the reported victims.
