James L. Giddings

Mr. James L. Giddings, 91, Greencastle, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011 at Putnam County Hospital.

Born June 26, 1920 in Hancock County, he was the son of Lawrence B. and Dortha Mae (Walls) Giddings and was a graduate of Greencastle High School class of 1938.

He married Marie (Englehart) Pritchard on Aug. 14, 1968, and she survives.

He had been an electrician with the DePauw University physical plant for 16 years, retiring in 1986. Prior to working at DePauw he had been a farmer for several years.

James was a United States Army veteran, having served in Europe during World War II.

He was a charter member of the Fillmore Fire Department; a member of the Fillmore Christian Church; the Applegate Masonic Lodge No. 155, Fillmore; Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis; and the American Legion Post No. 58, Greencastle.

Survivors include his daughters, Janice (Charlie) Schenk of Cloverdale, Joan Sue (Bob) Corns of Quincy, and Jennifer Lou "Jenni" (Ernie) Artis of Cloverdale; a brother, Paul "Pud" (Marian) Giddings of Greencastle; stepdaughters, Anna Marie (Dale) Jacob of Kansas and Sharon Kaye Tarbutton of Lake Station; three grandchildren, Robin (Charlie) Hallam of Cloverdale, Karen (Tony) Neibold of North Carolina and Aaron Stout of Greencastle; three great-grandchildren, Amber Marie (Zach) Minnick, Christin Joan Hallam and Anthony Robert Neibold; a great-great-grandson, Gunner Robert Minnick.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Murl Giddings; a grandson, William Hayden Crockett; and stepson, Tommy Lewis Moss.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 30 at the Pine Lawn Mausoleum of Forest Hill Cemetery, Greencastle, with Rev. Paul Champion officiating. Entombment to follow with military honors.
