Three men overpower employee, rob Greencastle Subway

Saturday, December 17, 2011

The Greencastle Subway resturant on 1360 E. Indianapolis Road was robbed Thursday night by three men as a female employee was emptying the trash.
The Subway restaurant in the Shoppes of Greencastle shopping center on the city's East Side was robbed Thursday night, Greencastle City Police reported.

The incident occurred shortly after 10 p.m. at the Subway at 1360 E. Indianapolis Rd. as a female employee went outside to take out the trash, GPD Officer Eric Vaughan reported.

Three men reportedly approached the young woman while she was outside on the east side of the building, she told police.

One of them reportedly pushed her up against the wall and held her there while his two accomplices ran inside and took an undisclosed amount of cash from the store's cash registers.

No weapon was displayed and the Subway employee reportedly sustained no injuries, police said.

All three suspects were described as being in their 20s.

The victim described the suspect who held her as a white male, 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighing approximately 170 pounds. He was reportedly wearing a camouflage ski mask, red hoodie sweatshirt and dark sweat pants.

She described the other two suspects as approximately 5-7 and 150-170 pounds, and approximately 6-1 and 160-170 pounds.

The two suspects who ran inside the restaurant wore dark-colored hoodie sweatshirts and sweat pants, and had reportedly used material in bandanna-like fashion to shield their faces.

Although the suspects' faces were hidden, police believe the pair who went inside the store are also white males. The victim was close enough to the other suspect to know that he was white, police noted.

After the suspects exited the store, the employee reported that they ran southeast toward Walmart.

Detectives recovered surveillance video from inside Subway Friday morning and were examining it for further details.

The incident remains under investigation by the Greencastle Police Department. Anyone with possible information is asked to contact City Police at 848-1539 or 653-2925.
