Furman A. "Big Bull" Patterson, 79, of Greencastle passed away Monday, April 30, 2012.

He was born on Aug. 7, 1932 in Greencastle to John L. Patterson and Opal O. Grimes Patterson.

Mr. Patterson was a graduate of Greencastle High School and served his country in the U.S. Army.

He had been employed with J.L. Patterson Trucking and IBM Corp., and had been a general contractor.

He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings John L. "Junior" Patterson, Edith Fall, Virginia Pulliam, Bob Patterson and Joan Leslie; and twin children, Jamie and Scott Patterson.

Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Norma V. Langley Patterson; children Cheri Dees and husband Marco of Greencastle, Mark A. Patterson and wife Elizabeth of Greencastle, Vicki Patterson Gibson and husband Ron of Greencastle, Michael L. Patterson and wife Tonja of Greencastle, Michele Dee Shepherd and husband Leon of Greencastle, and Eric Furman Patterson of Greencastle; three brothers, Keith Patterson and wife Joan, Jack Patterson and wife Wanda, and Donald Patterson and wife Adrenne; four sisters, Kay Gilley and husband Bob, Sue Inman, Doris McMains and companion Ray, and Sally Stewart; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 3 at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Chaplain Ron Turner officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 11 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
