Hesler acting as principal at Greencastle High School

Friday, May 11, 2012

With Greencastle High School Principal Randy Corn's tenure at Greencastle already set to end after the school year, the date of his resignation was recently moved up.

The Greencastle School Board accepted Corn's resignation, effective May 1, at Wednesday's monthly meeting. No reason for the change was given.

"Mr. Corn moved up his resignation date, and that's all I can say about that," Superintendent Dr. Lori Richmond told the Banner Graphic.

With Corn departed and only a little bit of school remaining, Assistant Principal Russ Hesler has been named interim principal.

"We're all chipping in at this point and Mr. Hesler is interim principal for the remaining two weeks," Richmond said. "We have a lot of support from our guidance department, Mr. (Bill) Smith and Mrs. (Shannon) Fritz. All is moving along as planned.

"Everything remains stable, focused."

The board named Jennifer Shepherd the new GHS principal in early April. Her tenure will begin June 1.

Until then, the goal is to get through the remaining two weeks of school.

"Everything is holding together fine. We really haven't had any problems," Richmond said. "We informed the parents the next day, so they knew. It was very quiet."

"We just have 10 more days of school."

Other personnel items accepted at Wednesday's meeting included

* Resignations: Michael VanRensselaer as GMS part-time math teacher, effective end of school year; Alivia Anderson as GMS language arts teacher, effective at end of school year; Dan Layton as GMS part-time teacher and activities director, effective at end of school year; Lori Shuck as GHS guidance secretary, effective end of school year; Lou Watson as Tzouanakis noon aide, effective April 30; Kellie Weller as athletic trainer, effective May 23.

* Summer school hires: Donovan Wheeler, Logan Kuhne, Wendi Haltom, Kyla Burnham and Jennifer Schlatter as teachers and Jennifer Schlatter, Hannah Mitchell, Jessica Tarr and Kim Rossok as instructional assistants.

* Jennifer Vermillion was hired as central office secretary.

  • I would just like to clarify my "resignation" status. I have worked for the school system for 15+ years and "officialy" I retired. I am beginning another chapter in my life.
