Robert Wayne Capps, 65, of Brazil, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012 at his home following a battle with cancer.

He was born March 23, 1947 in Crawfordsville, the son of Elmer Capps and Clonia Spears Capps.

On July 24, 1969 Robert was united in marriage to Evelyn Montgomery Capps, she survives.

Robert worked for South Putnam School Corporation in maintenance and also for Quality Inn in Cloverdale. He also worked as a carpenter, mechanic and construction. He also owned and operated Capps Asphalting for several years.

Bob loved working in his yard, being outside and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Junior, John and Bill Capps; and a sister, Versa Lee Capps.

Survivors include his wife Evelyn of Brazil; daughters Robin Capps of Brazil and Rhonda Silvers and husband Terry of Clay City; adopted daughter/granddaughter Ashley Buchanan and husband Matt of Brazil; grandchildren Courtney Robinson and husband Curtis, Ronald E. Simpson and companion Nikki Creager, Tyler Silvers and companion Chelsea Thomas, Kimberly Simpson and companion Joe Wallace, and Alexis Silvers and companion Zachery Welch; great-grandchildren Grant Simpson, Miah Capps, Trinity Robinson, Milee Simpson and Daniel Buchanan; and step-great-grandchild, Madison Creager.

Also surviving are brothers Elvin Capps and companion Kathy Minnick, Edward Capps and wife Mable, Gilbert Dale Capps and wife Mary Ann, and Raymond Capps and wife Kathy; sisters Ersie Lighty, Phannie Sexton of Terre Haute, Martha Davis, Judy York and husband Richard, Annie Strauser and husband Kenny, and Ruthann O'Conner; sister in law Brenda Wood and many nieces and nephews and extended family.

Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lawson-Miller Chapel, Brazil, with Pastor Steve Ward officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery.

Visitation will be 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the funeral home.
