County Jail

Several people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 3:03 a.m. on Saturday, Ian Edward Nelson, 33, Greencastle, was arrested for operating while intoxicated, possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia.

* At 3:15 a.m. Sunday, Mark Anthony Sadler, 33, Fillmore, was held at the jail for operating while intoxicated with a prior conviction and as a habitual traffic violator.

At 10:58 p.m. Gary Wayne Schwomeyer, 60, Cloverdale, was charged with operating while intoxicated.

* At 7:45 a.m. Monday, Kyle Akers, 38, no city listed, was lodged at the jail for motor vehicle theft.

At 10:45 a.m. Timothy David Ruble, 30, Anderson, was booked in for nonsupport of a dependent and failure to appear.

At 9:15 p.m. Joshua Lee Doane, 30, Poland, was arrested for possession of marijuana and resisting law enforcement.

Sheriff's Department

* At 10:42 p.m. Thursday, Deputy Mathew D. Biggs, 25, Russellville, was responding to an emergency call at Heritage Lake when he lost control on a 90-degree turn, totaling the police car he was driving.

Biggs told Sgt. Gregg Slover that as he negotiated the turn on Heritage Drive, the traction control on the 2006 Dodge Charger activated, causing the rear end to slide.

The car left the north side of the road and Biggs was unable to bring it back. The car hit a culvert and rolled onto its side.

Biggs was taken to Putnam County Hospital for minor injuries.

Sheriff Steve Fenwick assisted Sgt. Slover with the investigation.

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 7:57 a.m. Sunday, Tyler L. Alford, 18, Bainbridge, was westbound on U.S. 36 just west of County Road 475 East when his car left the road for an unknown reason.

Deputy Ronnie Campbell reported Alford's 1997 Pontiac Sunfire left the roadway and entered a ditch, where it rolled.

Alford was taken to Hendricks Regional Health.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department responded to a pair of dispatches on Sunday.

* At 12:54 p.m. GFD was called to a motor vehicle accident at 3830 South U.S. 231, but was disregarded at 2:57 p.m.

* At 9:44 p.m. firefighters investigated an alarm at 410 Anderson St. The problem was found to be due to cooking. They returned to station at 9:59 p.m.
