Blowin' in the Wind

Wednesday, April 3, 2013

Even as they turn gracefully under the clear sky of an early April day, the blue and silver pinwheels on the southwest corner of the Putnam County Courthouse lawn serve as a reminder of the ongoing problem of child abuse. They were placed there Monday in memory of the Indiana children who have died from abuse or neglect. Five-year-old Anna Cox (above), daughter of Putnam County Family Support Services Director Cari Cox and Jeff Cox, was among the volunteers placing the pinwheels and accompanying sign in front of the Buzz Bomb monument. Monday kicked off Child Abuse Prevention Month in Putnam County and nationwide, with Mayor Sue Murray issuing a proclamation on the month earlier on Monday. The observance of the month is also marked by the hanging or painting of blue ribbons throughout the community during April.
