ROACHDALE -- North Putnam sophomore Sabrina Surber continued her strong early-season statement on Tuesday, recording 12 strikeouts to help the Cougars softball team beat visiting Greencastle 11-1.

Surber's two-day total is now 30 after her win on Monday against the Tiger Cubs.

"That's pretty good pitching right there," NPHS coach Benny Ault said. "And our bats are going ... We worked hard on hitting this year and it's starting to show off.

"My two freshman, Lauren Johnson and Claire Sims are just doing a phenomenal job. The seniors are doing a great job. All the way around, from Lauren Campbell to TyeAnn Strow ... They're looking really good."

Surber also helped her own cause at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs.

Juniors Kayla Fish and Bailey Ault, senior Katie Welch and freshman Claire Sims also scored twice for the Cougars.

Greencastle had a few hitters put together solid days, but the team did not put together a sustained rally.

Danielle Thomas and Courtney Adams each went 2-for-3 and Hope Scanland had a base hit and scored a run.

Freshman Madi Fauvergue had two walks in three plate appearances.

"We're trying to figure a lot of things out," GHS coach Dave Keller said. "Kenlee (Johnson) has caught two really good games in a row. Danielle Thomas, our leadoff hitter, is putting the bat on the ball. Ellen (Gobert), our senior, is putting the bat on the ball. ... We'll be all right. We'll get there."

Greencastle (0-2) plays next at Edgewood on Thursday at 5 p.m.

The Cougars (2-0) host Eminence Thursday at 5 p.m.

"I keep telling these girls, 'Let's put it away,' because with these teams it doesn't take long to come back," Ault said. "We're trying to put pressure on the other team. It's hard to fight pressure. We took our lumps last year, so lets remember that but still be respectful of the other team."
