TERRE HAUTE -- The North Putnam Cougars Academic Team can boast a state championship following recent competition in the Indiana Academic Super Bowl Junior Division.

The North Putnam science team, consisting of coach Ann Wynn and members Lilly Rambis, Jonathan Kirby and Zach Timm, captured the state championship.

The academic team traveled to Sara Scott Middle School in Terre Haute to participate in the Indiana Academic Super Bowl Junior Division Area Competition.

The teams competed in Math, English, Social Studies, Science and Interdisciplinary rounds with North Putnam competing in the Class Three Division with four other teams.

The Cougars captured the following places at the area meet: Science and Social Studies both finished in first place; Math and Interdisciplinary each placed second; and English came in fourth.

The scores from sites of area competition were compared with all 41 Division Three teams from across the state to generate the final standings in the state competition.

Besides the science team winning the state title, the North Putnam math team took seventh place overall in the state.
