County Jail

Several people have been booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 2:57 p.m. Friday, Rex Allen Clay, 50, Danville, was arrested for probation violation.

* At 4:13 a.m. Saturday, Samuel Tilley Bryant, 32, Linden, was charged with operating while intoxicated.

At 6 p.m. Belinda Lee Ferguson (Pruett), 28, Poland, was held at the jail for driving with a suspended license and on a Montgomery County warrant.

* At 2:32 a.m. Sunday, Nichole Lee Drykos, 31, Greencastle, was charged with domestic battery and interfering with the reporting of a crime.

At 3 a.m. Melissa Diane Buchanan, 46, Coatesville, was held at the jail for operating while intoxicated.

* At 12:19 a.m. Monday, Erica Kay Thompson, 36, Greencastle, was booked in for possession of a controlled substance, possession of a legend drug, possession of a syringe and reckless possession of paraphernalia.

At 1:59 a.m. Charles Ray Wright, 58, Indianapolis, was arrested for operating while intoxicated.

At 3:49 p.m. Justin Phillip Delp, 24, Cloverdale, was charged with violation of home detention.

City Police

Two young women were arrested Saturday night in an alleged shoplifting incident at the Greencastle Walmart store.

Charged with theft in the 10:54 p.m. incident investigated by Officer Nick Eastham were Sharon Lynn Hayes, 22, South Holland, Ill., and Lauren Michelle Gilliam, 22, Chicago.

Authorities said the suspects put numerous items in their purses and tried to leave Walmart without paying.

Hayes reportedly took $114.19 worth of merchandise, including eye makeup, fabric paint, a flat iron and a bottle of tequila.

Gilliam allegedly took fabric paint, Maybelline lip products and Bacardi rum, valued at a total of $47.51.

Both suspects were lodged in the Putnam County Jail.

In another shoplifting case investigated by City Police, Kristy Lynn Smith, 34, Greencastle, was arrested Monday following a Sunday incident at the Dollar General Store on North Jackson Street.

Smith, who was arrested by Capt. Mike Hanlon and lodged in the Putnam County Jail, reportedly took candy and soda valued at $9.75.

She was also arrested on a Putnam County warrant for two counts of non-support.

A teenage driver was cited early Saturday for illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor after police stopped a vehicle inside Robe-Ann Park at 4:50 a.m.

Shelby Skirvin, 19, Greencastle, was cited by Officer Matt Huffman in the incident.

Two minor accidents were reported Monday by City Police.

-- At 3:22 p.m., a one-car mishap occurred at 810 E. Indianapolis Rd. as Joseph O'Conner, 34, Greencastle, attempted to use the Washington Street entrance to Kork and Keg Liquors and his 2001 Chevrolet Impala struck a curb on the south side of the property as he turned.

Damage to the car was listed at $2,500-$5,000, Officer Darrel Bunten reported.

The air bag deployed in the incident, resulting in facial injuries to a passenger, Patricia Knight, 42, Greencastle.

-- At 10:19 a.m. Monday, a two-vehicle accident occurred at Washington and Bloomington streets as a turning northbound semi caused Cody Gibson, 28, Bainbridge, to put his 2003 Hummer in reverse to avoid being hit by the turning trailer.

Gibson was stopped eastbound on Washington Street at the stoplight. When he took evasive action, however, he backed the Hummer into another eastbound vehicle, a 2008 Honda, driven by Susan Franz, 65, Greencastle, Capt. Hanlon reported.

The Hummer was undamaged but the Honda was struck by a hitch on the Hummer, resulting in front-end and hood damage estimated at $1,000-$2,500.

Sheriff's Department

* At 3:30 p.m. Friday, a backing accident occurred between two teenage drivers in the North Putnam High School parking lot.

Gwendolyn Y. Ma-zur, 17, Fillmore, was backing a 2009 GMC Yukon from a space when she struck a 2003 Toyota MR2 Spyder driven by Bennett J. Hazelgrove, 17, Bainbridge.

Capt. Danny Wallace estimated damage at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 4:01 p.m. Friday, Cecilia R. Capps, 22, Cloverdale, was attempting to pull onto U.S. 231 from Edgelea Drive in a 2011 Toyota.

As she tried to turn, she pulled in front of the northbound 2005 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Tammy V. Callender Buckner, 47, Greencastle.

Callender Buckner told Capt. Wallace she could not avoid the collision.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has responded to a number of recent dispatches.

* At 1:14 a.m. Saturday, GFD was called to an alarm at 500 S. Jackson St. but was disregarded upon arrival at 1:22 a.m.

At 12:55 p.m. firefighters investigated an alarm at the former ResCare home at 1538 Bloomington St. They returned to station at 3:32 p.m. At 1:40 crews returned to the same building. Again finding nothing, they cleared the scene at 2:28 p.m.

* At 7:17 p.m. personnel assisted with a motor vehicle accident at Washington and Spring streets, providing cleanup. They returned to station at 8:32 p.m.

At 11:17 p.m. GFD investigated an alarm at Humbert Hall, 208 E. Olive St., returning to station at 11:32 p.m.

* At 12:40 a.m. Monday, crews were called to assist Operation Life on Zinc Mill Road but were disregarded at 12:42 a.m.

At 11:23 a.m. firefighters performed an animal rescue at 306 W. Walnut St., getting a cat out of a tree. They returned to station at 11:31 a.m.

At 3:26 p.m. GFD assisted with patient care at an automobile accident at 810 Indianapolis Rd. They cleared the scene at 3:38 p.m.

At 4:17 p.m. crews responded to a motor vehicle accident at 1215 Bloomington St., assisting with patient care. They returned to station at 4:26 p.m.

At 11:48 p.m. firefighters assisted Operation Life at 708 Castleton Dr., clearing the scene at 12:47 a.m.

* At 4:56 a.m. Tuesday, personnel investigated an odor in the area of Chiyoda, 2200 E. State Road 240. No problem was found and they were back on station at 5:10 a.m.

At 5:10 a.m. GFD investigated a smoke smell at 11 E. Larabee St. The problem was coming from a light ballast, which firefighters shut off. They cleared the scene at 5:21 a.m.

At 7:17 a.m. crews responded to a smoke detector activation at 330 Greenwood Ave. The problem was due to cooking. They returned to station at 7:46 a.m.
