Indiana State Police

Indiana State Police and Putnam County emergency agencies responded to a report of car-motorcycle accident on U.S. 40 at State Road 240 early Wednesday afternoon.

Preliminary investigation of the 12:13 p.m. accident indicated a 2009 Nissan Altima, driven by Shari Stevens, 42, Coatesville, was eastbound on State Road 240.

As Stevens attempted to turn onto U.S. 40, she reportedly drove into the path of a westbound 2004 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, ridden by Jeffrey L. Christian, 54, Indianapolis.

To avoid colliding with the car, Christian steered his bike into the U.S. 40 median where he lost control and laid it down.

Christian suffered abrasions, but declined medical treatment at the scene. His wife, a passenger on the bike, was not injured.

ISP Senior Trooper DuJuan Presley-McFadden cited Stevens for failure to yield the right of way.

Assisting at the accident scene were Putnam County Operation Life personnel.
