Relays, throwers lead charge out of boys' track sectional
TERRE HAUTE -- The Putnam County boys' track and field squads made the trek to Terre Haute Thursday night for the IHSAA Boys' Track and Field Sectional, hosted by North Vigo High School.
Athletes from all four schools will compete next week at the Evansville Central Regional after their performances, with South Putnam the highest placing team on the day in fourth position on 41 points.
Greencastle and Cloverdale tied for fifth place with 29 points and North Putnam finished ninth with 25.5 points, all behind sectional champion Terre Haute South.
The Eagles will be represented in Evansville by the 4x100-meter relay team of Wes Riner, Ben Fiest, Lucas Lorian and Derrick Mitchell, Klayton Vittetow in the high jump, Hunter Barr in the 800-meter run and Ryan Chestnut in the shot put.
North Putnam's Nick Kaufman advanced in both the high and long jumps, while Eric Davis advanced in the shot put and Tucker Lowe placed in the 100-meter dash.
Greencastle will send Tyler Hudson in the 800-meter run, the 4x800-meter relay team of Hudson, Elijah Brattain, Isaac Harms and Taylor Secrest and the 4x400-meter relay team of Hudson, Jacob Kessler, Sedrick Weinschenk and Dylan Battin.
Cloverdale's Bret Brumfield advanced in the 400-meter dash, while Jake Waycott placed in the 800-meter run and the 4x400 relay team of Brumfield, Waycott, Wade Warren and Jourdan Smith advanced as well.
