Indiana Landmarks affiliates' spring meeting in Greencastle

Thursday, May 23, 2013

Greencastle will play host to the Spring Meeting of the Indiana Landmarks Affiliate Council on Friday, May 31.

The organization's semi-annual meeting will convene at 10 a.m. in the Kiwanis Room at the Putnam County Public Library (PCPL), 103 E. Poplar St.

The topic of the primary presentation is scheduled as "Recognizing and Preserving Mid-Century Modern Architecture."

Mark Dollase, Indiana Landmarks vice president of preservation services, will provide a guide to Indiana's mid-century style structures. He raises the question: "Ever ask yourself, 'How can a 1960s house be historic when it's younger than me?'"

Around noon the group will walk from the library to Almost Home on the north side of the square for lunch (at a cost of $10) and a roundtable discussion. Those planning to attend the luncheon are asked to RSVP by May 28 by calling 1-800-450-4534.

The discussion will allow each affiliate organization present to update the others as to what their organization has been up to since the last meeting and what is planned in the next six months.

During the Heritage Preservation Society (HPS) of Putnam County's presentation time, Greencastle Mayor Sue Murray will also provide an update on the city's façade program under the Stellar Community Grant effort.

Around 2 p.m. the group will join HPS members for a walk around the Courthouse Square so other attendees can see how the façade work is progressing in Greencastle.

Indiana Landmarks has 63 affiliate organizations throughout the state. The number or groups represented varies from meeting to meeting, but generally runs somewhere around 10-20 with the total number of attendees generally running 40-60 people, including presenters and Indiana Landmark staff.
