Brazil concert band presents 'Don't Rain On My Parade'

The Brazil Concert Band, under the direction of Matthew S. Huber, presents "Don't Rain On My Parade" at 8 p.m. Sunday, June 9 in Forest Park, rain or shine.

The title comes from "Funny Girl" the musical by Jule Styne and Bob Merrill written 50 years ago. The songs include "People," "Who Are You Now?", "The Music That Makes Me Dance" and "You Are Woman, I Am Man," all arranged by Robert Russell Bennett.

Two band classics from the 1960s, "Emperata Overture" by Claude Smith and "Third Suite" by Robert Jager, show off unusual time meters.

"Third Suite," defying foot tapping, will be conducted by ISU School of Music graduate Janelle R. Huber.

"Cabaret" is about life in pre-World War II Germany and features "Willkommen," "Tomorrow Belongs To Me," "Cabaret," "Meeskite" and "Married," all songs by John Kander and Fred Ebbs arranged by Norman Leyden.

Marches of the week are "Royal Bridesmaids" by John Casto, "Call of the Road" by Fred Jewell and "The Glory of the Yankee Navy" and "Kansas Wildcats," both by John Philip Sousa.

Two great American composers, Scott Joplin and Leroy Anderson, will be heard in "The Entertainer," revived in the movie "The Sting," and "Sandpaper Ballet," held over from last week.

T. J. Sneddon will sing "The Star-Spangled Banner."
