Earline Violet (Gregory) VanScoyk

Earline Violet (Gregory) VanScoyk, 98, of Greencastle, passed away peacefully at Mill Pond Health Campus on June 8, 2013.

She was born Oct. 19, 1914 in Dixon Springs, Tenn., to the late William Lloyd and Ada David (Gross) Gregory. At a young age, she attended school in Cato, Tenn. Later, she married Charles "Charlie" Lloyd VanScoyk, on Aug. 12, 1955. Earline retired after 20 years from L.S. Ayres Tearoom in 1984, a job that she loved and talked about often. Many of her memories included how she waited on President John F. Kennedy and several high political figures. After retiring, she became a homemaker and was active in Putnam County Extension Club and Putnam County Women's Chorus.

Her love of quilting earned several awards in the county fair over a number of years. In her lifetime, she estimated that she had made over 300 quilts. She also was a member of Lifespring Church.

Earline is survived by her husband of 58 years, Charlie VanScoyk; sons, Jerry Woodard, Ronald Woodard, both of Dallas, Texas, Steven (Kathy) VanScoyk and Jason VanScoyk, both of Indianapolis; daughter, Amee (Dustan) Lyons of Greencastle; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Sara (Bob) Marentette of Madison, Tenn.; brothers, Haskell Gregory of Hartsville, Tenn. and Finnis Dean "Mickey" of Lebanon, Tenn.; and several nieces & nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jack Woodard; sisters; Ada Dee, Farrell, Mary, Laura and Annelle; brothers, W.L. and Junior.

Visitation will be Tuesday, June 11 at Lifespring Church, 5038 North U.S. 231 Greencastle from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. with services at 6 p.m. Pastor Scott L. Volland will be officiating. In a private family entombment, Earline will be laid to rest at noon on Wednesday, June 12 at Floral Park Cemetery.
