The Greencastle girls' golf team completed its best nine-hole score of the season on Monday, finishing at 221 while competing against North Putnam at Twin Bridges.

The Tiger Cubs were led by senior Liz Johnson who shot a 49. Junior Lauren Bridgewater and sophomore Lokysa Scheuermann each finished at 54.

Junior Haley Cash (64) and freshman Alex Weliever (65) finished off the scoring for GHS.

"I was really pleased with Liz's round today," GHS coach Bob Hedge said. "I thought she struck the ball really well."

While the Tiger Cubs are hoping their team can start to round into form throughout the season, the Cougars have a very different goal in sight.

NPHS begins the season with just two golfers, not enough to compile a team score in dual events or tournaments.

Junior Olivia Zarate and Jessie Cox will have to use intrinsic and individual motivation to reach bars they set for themselves.

Zarate shot a 54 against GHS and Cox 56, respectable totals for the first match of the season.

Both teams play again in dual matches on Wednesday.

The Tiger Cubs will host Terre Haute North at 5 p.m. and the Cougars travel to Southmont at 4:30 p.m.
