Boil order in effect for South 43 customers north of Greencastle

Friday, September 27, 2013

The South 43 Water Association has experienced a water main break Friday morning on its main north of Greencastle.

A boil order will be necessary for customers located north of Greencastle, including the Willow Bend and Oak Ridge Subdivisions.

Customers not included in the boil order are located south of Greencastle.

South 43 customers served by the affected water main will be under an extended boil order until further notice. A boil order means you should boil any cooking or drinking water for five minutes before using or consuming.

Boiled or bottled water must be provided for the following uses:

* Water used as an ingredient in any food products.

* Water used to wash or rinse food products.

* Water used for drinking.

* Water added to drinks/tea/coffee/soda/juice.

* Water used to make consumable ice or ice products.

* For basic personal hygiene, handwashing with soap and tap water is acceptable. However, boiled or bottled water should be used prior to eating.

* Unboiled tap water may be used for hand washing dishes, provided that afterward, they are rinsed in a solution containing one tablespoon of bleach per gallon of water.

* A dishwasher may be used if it has a sanitizing cycle.

This is the second boil order in three days in Putnam County. On Wednesday, the Reelsville Water Authority put its entire system under an advisory following a water main break. That boil order has since been lifted.
