Items from Putnam County small towns like Belle Union, Bainbridge, Brick Chapel and other locations currently featured in ongoing Putnam County Museum 'Small Towns" exhibit.

The Putnam County Museum has added a special new event -- the "Small Towns of Putnam County Exhibit in Action."

The theatrical programming is made possible through a Service Learning Project undertaken in conjunction with an acting class at DePauw University.

The museum is offering a series of skits illustrating many of the stories told in its "Small Towns" exhibit.

From the "Story of the Illustrious Postcard Artist" from Fillmore, to the story of the Putnam County man who died on the Titanic, the museum will share a few of the lesser-known historic tales from our area.

The public is invited to join the museum on Friday, Oct. 11 from 5-6 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 12 from 11 a.m. to noon.

Friday's performance will feature some of the more risqué stories of murder, mystery and romance. Saturday will highlight some of the other interesting stories from around the county. However, everyone is welcome to attend either or both of the performances.

The Putnam County Museum is located at 1105 N. Jackson St. in Greencastle. Visitors are invited to become members of the museum during its membership drive this fall.

"We have several exciting exhibits and events coming this fall," Director Tanis Monday shared.

"We hope that those visiting will join the ranks of our membership so that we can keep them up to date on coming events and programs with the added benefit that admission is free for our members in appreciation of their support."

The unique theatrical programming will be traveling throughout the county later this year, Monday said.

There is no fee associated with the programming, but it is available only on a first-come, first-served basis through the first week of December. Any group that would like a presentation is urged to contact the museum for more information sarah@putnamcountymuseum.org or 653-8419.

The museum is open Tuesday through Friday from 1-4 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free.
