Volunteers sought for annual AARP Tax Aide program

Monday, November 11, 2013

Are you interested in a local volunteer position with the potential of saving you money? Would you like to learn how to do your own taxes and help others?

The AARP Tax Aide program is looking for volunteers. All training materials and classes are free. All volunteers must meet IRS requirements to provide services to local low-income and elderly taxpayers.

Last year the site helped more than 150 taxpayers from Putnam, Clay, Parke and Owen counties.

From the Putnam County Public Library, volunteers e-file tax forms beginning the first of February through April 15. However, due to the recent government shutdown, the dates may vary slightly.

Training classes will be scheduled soon. Anyone with questions concerning this volunteer program may contact local coordinator Karen Shillings at 653-6577.

All volunteers are to register at http://www.aarp.org/aarp-foundation.
