City Police

One recent arrest was reported by Greencastle City Police officers.

James Timothy Coy, 36, Greencastle, was arrested on a theft warrant at 10 p.m. Wednesday by Officer Matt Huffman.

Lodged in the Putnam County Jail, Coy faces charges of theft, leaving the scene of a traffic accident and bond revocation.

Police said the theft charge involved Coy allegedly stealing bags of salt that belong to a private contractor who does the snow removal for Walmart.

Officers Darrel Bunten and Ed Wilson obtained a warrant for Coy's arrest in the theft case.

Coy was ultimately arrested by Officer Huffman as the suspect reportedly hid in the corner of the attic at his 71 Queenswood Ct. residence.

Greencastle Street Department officials were then sent to the home to load up and transport the stolen bags of salt to GPD after Coy's arrest.

Two recent traffic accidents were investigated by city officers.

-- At 1:25 p.m. Tuesday, a two-car mishap was reported on Indianapolis Road, just west of Round Barn Road, as Cain Grocox, 22, Rushville, was stopped westbound, waiting to turn left into the Taco Bell lot.

His 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt was reportedly struck from behind by a westbound 2004 Pontiac Grand Am, driven by Brittany Eubank, 23, Greencastle, who told Capt. Mike Hanlon she looked down momentarily and did not see the Grocox car had stopped.

Total damage was estimated at $2,500-$5,000.

-- At 1:09 p.m. Monday, a two-vehicle accident was reported on Indianapolis Road near Franklin Street and the entrance to Kroger.

Catherine Engle, 52, Russellville, was westbound on Indianapolis Road, driving a 2005 Pontiac Vibe, when a westbound 1993 Ford F-150 pickup, driven by Kimberly Clark 44, Greencastle, swerved into Engle's path to avoid a collision with a vehicle exiting Kroger.

Clark told Officer Bunten that an older woman driving an older-model gray car pulled out of Kroger into her path, causing her to take evasive action that resulted in a collision with the Engle vehicle.

Total damage was listed at $2,500-$5,000.

Five recent traffic citations were reported by city officers.

-- At 4:38 a.m. Saturday, Danny McIntosh, 37, Coal City, was ticketed by Officer Nick Eastham for 51 mph in a 30-mph zone on Bloomington Street, south of Martinsville Street.

-- At 9:25 p.m. Jan. 31, Karen Lorenzen, 31, Bloomington, was cited by Officer Eastham for 52 mph in a 30-mph zone on Bloomington Street, south of Martinsville Street.

-- At 3:43 a.m. Jan. 31, Mark Payne, 20, Roachdale, was cited by Officer Kyle Lee at Wood Street and Gardenside Drive for an expired plate (September 2013).

-- At 8:18 p.m. Jan. 25, Robert R. Wright, 66, Terre Haute, was ticketed by Capt. Chris Jones on State Road 240 for an expired plate (December 2013).

-- At 8:35 a.m. Jan. 25, Ellie Reinoehl, 22, Plainfield, was cited by Capt. Hanlon for disregarding a stopsign at Franklin and Arlington streets.

Sheriff's Department

Three recent accidents were investigated by the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.

* At 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jeffery S. Pyle, 45, Princeton, was northbound on U.S. 231 just north of U.S. 40 when he lost control of the 2012 Freightliner semi tractor-trailer combo due to the slick road.

The vehicle left the road, going through a ditch and into a field, where it came to rest in a jackknife position.

The driver's side window shattered and Pyle sustained a small cut on his left hand and complained of rib pain. Operation Life transferred him to Putnam County Hospital.

Damage was estimated at $25,001-$50,000.

* At 3:22 p.m. Monday, Marvin W. Cheek, 68, North Salem, was eastbound on County Road 200 North just west of County Road 825 East in a 2013 Honda Pilot.

He told Campbell he slid off the road on the ice and hit a tree.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 12:37 p.m. Monday, Edgar E. McKinney, 55, Ladoga, was eastbound on County Road 1000 North in a 2006 Chrysler 300C.

She came to a 90-degree turn at County Road 500 East and slid off of the icy road, hitting a tree.

Deputy Ronnie Campbell listed damage at $1,001-$2,500.
