Audrey Keith Walton, age 82, of Greencastle, passed away on Saturday, March 29, 2014.

Born Nov. 8, 1931 in New Winchester, Ind., he was the son of William and Goldie Evelyn (Fields) Walton.

He graduated from Stilesville High School in 1950.

He married Elnora Jean (Walters) Walton on Aug. 6, 1950. Married almost 61 years, she preceded him in death on May 13, 2011.

Aud graduated Indiana Central College in Indianapolis, and received his master's degree in counseling from Indiana State University.

Audrey began his military service with the United States Navy in 1949 and volunteered to serve in the United States Army Medical Corp in 1954.

After his return from the service, he started his career in education at North Salem High School, where he also coached basketball, leading the team to a 1960 sectional championship.

In 1962 he moved to Greencastle, where he taught, coached basketball, served as athletic director and guidance counselor at the Junior High School. Later he moved to Greencastle High School where he was guidance director until his retirement in 1989.

Audrey was a member of the Greencastle First Baptist Church for more than 50 years and served on the Park Board and Zoning Board of Greencastle. He was also a Rotarian and recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship award in 2004.

He is survived by his daughter, Julie (Mark) Carr; grandchildren Makenzie Carr, Byron Holley and Samantha Holley; a great-granddaughter, Kamrin Holley; and a sister, Sharon Burris.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Abe and Vernon Walton; sister Wanda Petty; wife Elnora; daughter Sherrie Holley; and grandson Keith Carr.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home, Greencastle, with Rev. Randy McNeely officiating.

Interment with military honors will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, April 1 at the funeral home.
