Arbor Day Tree Planting

Thursday, April 24, 2014

Steadying a Newport red plum tree as its planted Thursday afternoon just south of the softball diamond at Robe-Ann Park, Greencastle Park Director Rod Weinschenk instructs William Wallace (left), Dustin Byrd (behind tree) and Cody Surface (right) on properly filling in the hole to anchor the tree.

Mayor Sue Murray, meanwhile, starts the Arbor Day celebration by reading a proclamation as the city's 15-year Tree City USA flag is displayed by Linley Allee (left) and Megan Miller, Putnam County Comprehensive Services staff members. In addition to the plum tree, the group also planted a crimson king maple tree south of shelterhouse No. 2 and a weeping willow northwest of the park restrooms.
