Friday, May 2, 2014

WCC rival teams Greencastle and Cloverdale sent its golf to Oak tree to take on Plainfield Plainfield took the win on the fifth scorecard with its score tied with Greencastle at 165.

Plainfield had 42 and the Tiger Cubs had 53 on the fitfh. Cloverdale came in third with 204.

Greencastle coach Steve Paquin, knows play will improve as the weather improves.

"Very windy and cold conditions were a factor in the scoring," Paquin said. "GHS made some mistakes caused by the wind and cold along with the other teams. Plainfield made fewer mistakes and came out the winner. Scores should get better with warmer weather that's supposed to come next."

The low man for Greencastle was Luke Brotherton who had 39. Alec Davis and Jake Buis had 40 and 41 respectively.

For the Clovers Freddie Fislar carded a 43 leading the way.

"In spite of his injury, Freddie played a pretty good round," Cloverdale coach Doug Wokoun said. "He has found a pretty effective method for working through things, and under the conditions, I was pleased with his effort."

Chase Snyder and Aaron Whitlock each had 48 for the Clovers.

"Chase and Aaron both had stretches of very good play, but both had penalty issues that they weren't able to overcome," Wokoun said. "Zach showed some flashes of good play, but was very inconsistent. We missed Rylan (Mattocks), as he was ill and unable to attend."

Cloverdale will be at Clover Meadows on Monday to play Tri-West and county rival South Putnam.

Greencastle's Tiger Cub Invitational is Saturday at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start. They will welcome Rockville, Southmont, and West Vigo to Windy Hill.
