CLINTON -- The South Putnam girls' tennis team followed its home nail-biter victory with a domninat performance at South Vermillion sweeping the Wildcats in varsity play.

The JV got in on the action as well winning 7-2.

"In No. 2 sinles action Miriah Cherry made quick work of her opponent, winning 6-0, 6-0," South Putnam coach John Broines said. "Miriah's game is progressing nicely. If she keeps up the pace, she should make a good showing at sectionals."

The other singles matches weren't so easy but the athletes kept composer and delivered the win.

"Kelly Hayden, No. 1 singles and Olivia Arnold, No. 3 singles," Broines said. "Two difficult opponents, but both persevered and pulled out a win.

"Kelly is continuing her solid play. Olivia is improving with each match."

The rest of the Eagles squad is improving as well. The No. 1 doubles match of Kyndra Boyne and Megan Guthrie bounced back after their loss at home, winning in two matches 6-4 each.

Allacyn Arnold and Savannah Adams took home their victory winning two matches 6-1.

Coach Broines is happy with the entire team effort and no doubt will be happy to return home for the match on Tuesday against Danville.

"No. 1 and No. 2 doubles came away with the win," Broines said, "playing some good tennis. Despite the long bus ride and the weather conditions, I am extremely proud of our varsity and junior varsity."
