Saturday's Tox-Away effort gets new location at GHS
Saturday is the day to get rid of all those items piling up in your garage or hidden in basement and closet corners.
It's "Tox-Away Day" in Putnam County with the annual springtime effort getting a new location this year at Greencastle High School.
The event is sponsored by West Central Solid Waste District to provide residents an opportunity to safely and inexpensively dispose of household hazardous waste. Businesses are prohibited from dropping off items.
Electronics such as cell phones, computers, DVD players, etc. can no longer be thrown in the trash. Such electronics and appliances can be brought to Tox-Away Day for free (one exception is a $10 fee for TVs).
The GHS site will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday (rain or shine). Longer lines can be expected between 8 and 9 a.m., organizers said.
Tox-Away participants are asked enter the high school property only from the Washington Street entrance.
Residents arriving at GHS will be routed to appropriate collection stations in an effort organized to get people in and out as quickly and safely as possible. Residents are asked to stay in their vehicle as skilled personnel unload their items.
Residents with specific questions can call the district office at 653-2150.
