Constance E. 'Connie' Newgent

Constance E. "Connie" Newgent, 87, of Greencastle, passed away on Friday, May 9, 2014.

Born Feb. 2, 1927 in Putnam County, she was the daughter of Richard and Margaret (Rossok) Baird and a graduate of Clinton Center High School.

She married Charles E. Newgent Jr. on Aug. 10, 1946, and he preceded her in death in April of 2006.

Connie was a homemaker and had worked at the Federal Land Bank Association.

She was a member of the Sherwood Christian Church, active in many activities of the church.

She is survived by her sons, David Joe (Toni) Newgent of Cloverdale and Richard (Teri) Newgent of Crawfordsville; six grandchildren, Stephen (Mandee) Newgent, Jeremy Newgent, Alycia (Ross) Perry, Chad (Beth) Newgent, Chris (Brittany) Newgent and Steven Scott (Jill) Kessler; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Jim Eddie Newgent; two sisters, Helen Clodfelter and Mary Margaret O'Hair; and a brother, Billy Ray.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 14 at the Bittles and Hurt Funeral Home, Greencastle, with interment at Brick Chapel Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13 at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory to the Alzheimer's Association or the Diabetes Association.
