5K run slated to celebrate life of Keith Carr on June 14

Sunday, May 18, 2014

It's time to dust off those shoes, lace them up and step outside. We're a few short weeks away from the inaugural C.A.R.R. 5K run in Greencastle. That stands for the Camo America Rainbow Run.

On Saturday, June 14, friends and family will celebrate the life of Andrew Keith Carr the best way they know how, by running, walking, trotting or strutting 3.1 miles while dressed to impress.

"And we don't mean in a tux," organizers suggest. "Be flamboyant. Be funny. Wear your favorite camo/ America/rainbow outfit or anything else that would put a smile on Keith's face."

If you're creative enough, there may even be an award in it for you.

The race kicks off at 9 a.m. at Deer Meadow Primary School, 1000 Deer Meadow Drive, Greencastle. Race registration is $25 and all proceeds go to the Andrew Keith Carr Memorial Fund.

"Together, we'll celebrate the strong-willed, unique, proud American brother, son and friend who was Keith Carr. He lives on in our hearts, and on June 14, he'll live on in our footsteps. Just smile back," mother Julie Carr said in announcing the event.

Today, May 19 is Keith Carr's birthday.

The son of Mark and Julie Carr of Greencastle would have been 22 had he not died tragically June 11, 2013 in Rome, Italy, from injuries sustained in an accidental fall while studying abroad as a Marquette University student.
