Putnam County schools send girls to regional

TERRE HAUTE -- All four Putnam County schools will send participants to the regional after a strong showing at the IHSAA Girls' Track and Field sectional at Terre Haute North Tuesday.

Greencastle finished third overall and had one individual champion in Jessica Lenihan at the shot put competition. Alex Stoffregen qualified in the 800 and 1600-meter runs, while Katerina King advanced in the 100-meter dash.

In addition, the 400-meter relay team of King, Bailey Lausee, Erica Hoagland and Sarah Miller, the 1600-meter relay team of Stoffregen, Corrie Romer, Allison White and Brittany Welker, and the 3200-meter relay team of Brittany Love, Grace Smith, Samantha and Katie Haynes advanced.

South Putnam finished fourth overall and had the other Putnam County champion in Ariel Higgins, who won the 300-meter hurdles and also qualified in the 100-meter hurdles.

Madie Egold advanced in the 1600 and 3200-meter runs, as did Amanda Barnes in the discus competition to fill a hole in the top four. South Putnam also advanced the 1600-meter relay team of Higgins, Aubrey Nichols and Deborah and Kim Cheatham.

Bailee Stevens and Laura Worthington take up the banner for Cloverdale next week, with Stevens finishing third in the 300-meter hurdles and Worthington finishing second at discus.

North Putnam's Desire' Parks finished second to Lenihan in shot put and will advance as the Cougars' sole regional representative.
