Cougars top Warriors in volleyball

MARSHALL -- North Putnam volleyball picked up its second win of the season Thursday with a 3-0 win at Turkey Run.

The Cougars (2-5) widened the margin of victory in each set, winning 25-20, 25-16 and 25-8.

"I was very proud of how the team adjusted so easily to a new lineup despite having little time to adjust," coach Brandy Dickson said. "Adri Millican can play all positions in front row well and has a high IQ for the game which made adjusting the lineup easy."

The quick turnaround was a welcome change to the coach, and she hopes the team can parlay it into momentum when it travels to Nashville for the Brown County Invitational on Saturday.

"We have been struggling mentally and I am hoping this win tonight will help their confidence going into Saturday's tourney," Dickson said. "They can play really well together and proved that tonight."

One key to that was the passing of setter Lyndi Parent.

"Lyndi Parent did a great job connecting with our hitters and our passing was dead-on tonight," Dickson said. "Our team has a lot of confidence in Lyndi as a setter and she keeps improving every game. She comes to every practice with the desire and effort to improve herself and serve her team. She very much wants to build a positive relationship with each of her teammates."

There have also been some key subs stepping in as the team awaits the return of senior outside hitter Kaitlin Mindiola.

"We are hoping Kaitlin Mindiola will be released to play soon," Dickson said. "In the meantime Carlie Bundy and Haley Abdon have done a great job filling that role."

The Cougar JV also picked up a victory, winning 25-17 and 25-23 over the Warriors. The JV will be back in action on Tuesday against Eminence.

In the meantime, the varsity has

The varsity travels to the tournament on Saturday.

"The team is looking forward to playing Greencastle and Edinburgh on Saturday," Dickson said.
