County Jail

Four people were booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 12:53 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, Melanie Rice, 28, Poland, was arrested with two counts of driving while intoxicated, theft of a motor vehicle and false informing.

* At 3:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3 Paul Voldemars Freibergs, 66, Seelyville, was taken to jail on two counts of driving while intoxicated.

* At 6 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, John Ryan Sanders, 31, Greencastle, was booked on possession of a controlled substance.

* At 4:06 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, Gaige Lewis Anderson, 22, Greencastle, was arrested for driving while intoxicated.

City Police

A 23-year-old Greencastle woman was arrested on a theft charge and two out-of-county warrants, City Police reported.

At 5:22 p.m. Wednesday, Leanna Marie Boles was arrested by Officer Jeff Modlin at a West Columbia Street residence.

She was arrested on a local theft charge for allegedly taking a car title from a friend's vehicle and refusing to return it, police said.

Boles was also held on a Marion County warrant for failure to appear in court on a charge of resisting law enforcement, along with a Tipton County warrant for failure to appear on a driving with a suspended license charge.

Two recent citations were issued by city officers.

* At 8:01 a.m. Tuesday, Angela Gaskins, 41, Terre Haute, was cited by Officer Darrel Bunten for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

Bunten was called to the Burger King lot on Indianapolis Road after Gaskins, in pulling away from the drive-through window, reportedly lost control of her vehicle and ended up in a ditch along the restaurant property.

The vehicle was undamaged but Bunten's investigation turned up the suspended license infraction.

* At 10:54 p.m. Tuesday, Jeremy West, 38, Greencastle, was stopped at Indianapolis Road and Veterans Memorial Highway by Officer Kyle Lee.

West was cited for an infraction of driving with a suspended license.

Sheriff's Department

Seven recent accidents have been investigated by the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.

* At 4:19 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, Austin R. Chadd, 21, Greencastle, was northbound on County Road 250 East in a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta when, as he reached the crest of a hill, a silver vehicle ran him off the road.

Chadd advised Dep. James J. Boller that he was run off the east side of the road, slid sideways across the south side of the roadway, slid into a ditch and struck a tree before coming to rest in a field.

Damage was estimated at $10,001-$25,000.

* At 11:10 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, Don Williams, 36, Indianapolis, was westbound on Interstate 70 in a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze when he lost control of his vehicle just west of the 43-mile marker and struck another vehicle.

Brady Battle, 70, Detroit, was driving the other vehicle while Dorothy Battle, 70, was a passenger.

Lt. Donnie Pettit was advised that both vehicles were westbound and that Cruze lost control of in the left lane for unknown reasons, hitting the Battles vehicle next to him in the right-front fender area.

Dorothy Battle was listed as injured, complaining of chest pains.

Damages was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 4:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2., Timothy E. Butts, 55, Brazil, ran off the roadway in his 2004 Chevrolet Silverado due to icy conditions.

Investigating officer Dep. Tyler Turner estimated damage at $2,501-$5,001.

* At 5 a.m. Monday, Feb. 2, Joshua F. Dittmer, 22, Danville, was westbound on State Road 240 near Fillmore in a 1999 two-door Chevrolet when he lost control due to snowy conditions.

Dittmer advised Lt. Dwight Simmons that he then veered off the roadway and struck a utility pole. No injuries were reported.

Damage was estimate at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 10:57 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, Melinda S. Arney was eastbound on State Road 300 West when, due to icy conditions, she left the roadway on the south shoulder, entered the ditch and came to a final rest on the vehicle's passenger side.

Arney was able to exit the vehicle on her own and did not require medical treatment.

Investigating officer Sgt. Craig Sibbitt estimated damage at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 7:46 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, Justin R. Woodall, 24, Fillmore, was westbound in a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero on County Road 50 North when he pulled over to yield for an oncoming ambulance.

Woodall said the front tire of his vehicle left the roadway and caused him to swerve, sideswiping a power pole. No injuries were reported.

Investigating officer Dep. Mike Downing estimated damage at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 7:03 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 4, Joseph D. Waters, 18, Cloverdale, was northbound on State Road 243 when he lost control of his Chevrolet, leaving the road and striking a fence post.

Waters advised Dep. James J. Boller that he did not know the area and therefore, did not have enough time to slow his vehicle down in time for a right turn.

City Fire

The Greencastle Fire Department has responded to three recent complaints.

* At 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, and again on Feb. 3, GFD was called to a citizen complaint at 1 W. Seminary St.

* At 3:55 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 3, GFD investigated an odor of paint at 27 Putnam Plaza.
