Lieber tree removal a success

Tuesday, February 10, 2015

CLOVERDALE -- The sale of firewood from hazardous trees at the Lieber State Recreation Area campground has raised $1,055 to plant new trees, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources has announced.

More than 100 trees in the campground were damaged by drought and scale in recent years.

Park staff felled the trees and invited people to come in and cut firewood for $5 per pickup truck load in December.

Lieber will no longer be providing this service.

Similar firewood programs for trees damaged by drought, scale and emerald ash borer are being offered at state parks throughout Indiana.
