With a 2015 theme of "Agriculture: Sustaining Future Generations," Putnam County Ag Day is set for Saturday, March 14 at the Putnam County Fairgrounds Community Building. The festivities will kick off with the annual $1 pancake and sausage breakfast, followed by a 9 a.m. program featuring Putnam County resident and State Soil Health Specialist Barry Fisher. Following Fisher's talk, the 2015 Ag Hall of Fame and Friend of the Farmer award winners will be honored. Finally, the free Mini Farm Fest will take place from 9:30 a.m.-noon. Ag Day co-coordinators (standing from left) Heather Poynter and Brandy Ames recently joined Putnam County Commissioners (seated from left) Rick Woodall, David Berry and Don Walton as they signed paperwork proclaiming Saturday, March 15 as Ag Day throughout Putnam County. The proclamation notes, in part, that agriculture is the oldest industry in the county, covering 197,619 acres -- nearly 65 percent of the total area. Additionally, the industry annual contributes $111,617,000 to the Putnam County economy.
