Putnam County students take part in MATH competition

Central Elementary was host to 14 teams for the annual regional M.A.T.H. competition on Thursday, Feb. 26.

Area elementary teams that participated were Bainbridge, Roachdale, Fillmore, Tzouanakis and Central.

The competition is sponsored by the Indiana Association of School Principals.

Scores from the local competition were compared to regional meets throughout the state to determine state rankings.

Area teams participating in the competition performed well, highlighted by Tzouanakis Intermediate finishing third in the state in the orange class, and Roachdale Elementary placing fifth in Indiana in the red class.

Local Results:

Red Class: 1. Roachdale Elementary (5th in state), 2. Bainbridge Elementary, 4. Central Elementary, 7. Fillmore Elementary

Orange Class: 1. Tzouanakis Intermediate (3rd in state)

Yellow Class: 1. Central Elementary, 2. Fillmore Elementary

Classes are determined by enrollments and grades of the students competing. The yellow class is comprised of fourth-graders only.
