County Jail

One person was booked into the Putnam County Jail recently.

* At 8:40 p.m. Tuesday, Jacob Michael Alexander, 22, Poland, was arrested on charges of probation violation, narcotic possession of a syringe and receiving stolen property.

* At 3:55 a.m. on Thursday, a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado crashed into a yard at 785 Frost Way, making a loud boom that caused resident Adam McCloud to look outside.

McCloud advised Dep. Mike Downing that he saw the driver jump out of the vehicle and begin running.

Downing and Dep. Virgil Lanning searched for the suspect unsuccessfully before returning to the scene to gather information.

The vehicle was towed and being held until the driver would claim it, requiring an explanation of why the individual fled the scene.

Multiple mailboxes were destroyed in the incident.

* At 6:26 a.m. on Saturday, Chloe Oakley, 24, Rockville, was westbound on U.S. 40 just east of County Road 625 West in a 2003 BMW 325i when she ran over a deer that was lying in the roadway.

Lt. Donnie Pettit estimated damage at $1,001-$2,500.

* At 11 a.m. on Saturday, Vernon Perry, 60, Greencastle, was southbound on County Road 600 West just north of County Road 500 South in a 2007 Subaru Outback.

Perry told Pettit he swerved to avoid a dog in the road, which caused his car to leave the east side of the road and hit a fence.

Damage was estimated at $2,501-$5,000.

* At 4:10 p.m. on Saturday, Kyle Snider, 34, Greencastle, was eastbound on County Road 125 South just west of County Road 200 West in a 1999 Buick Century Custom.

Snider told Pettit he lost control due to a mechanical problem with his front wheels. The car veered off the side of the road and hit a power pole, causing the car to roll over.

The vehicle came to rest upright, facing a southeasterly direction.

Snider was not injured. Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.

* At 9:18 p.m. on Wednesday, Deputy Kyle Gibbons was dispatched to the intersection of County Road 500 West and U.S. 36 for a single-vehicle accident.

The driver, 48-year-old Gerald E. Ensor Jr., Rockville, told Gibbons he had briefly fallen asleep while driving westbound on U.S. 36 in his 1999 GMC pickup truck.

The truck then veered off the road and hit a guardrail with the right front quarter panel and rear right bumper.

Gibbons did not find any damage to the guardrails in the area.

The deputy further reported that Ensor did not appear to be intoxicated in any way, reporting instead, "Mr. Ensor simply appeared tired."

Damage was estimated at $5,001-$10,000.
